Wood Viking

My name is Tove Friborg Bruun Mortensen, and I work as a graphic designer in my company, Lemon Design.
Originally, I planned to become a silversmith or ceramicist, but after several inspiring and creative years in various graphic design firms, I eventually became a self-employed graphic designer. It’s an exciting job that I never grow tired of — even after 25 wonderful years.

My first name, Tove, originates from the Viking Age and means “dove.” I like to think that this has somehow been a guiding thread leading me to create Wood Viking, where I interpret, design, and produce some of the Vikings’ many well-known and lesser-known icons in beautiful black wood.

Some of the products have even developed their own distinctive Viking look.

I have always felt and believed that I was meant to work artistically, and a project in 2017 led me to establish Wood Viking in 2018.

I have always loved simplicity, the color black, the scent of wood and nature, and beautiful craftsmanship. The Vikings’ remarkable craftsmanship in wood and metal has always held a special fascination for me.

I am truly passionate about my work and believe that the unique products stand out through their simplicity and their graphic, black expression. At the same time, the products carry a subtle scent of “tar,” which only makes them feel more authentic.

It is also very important to me that Wood Viking’s products are of high quality and created with respect for the environment.

In recent years, Viking history has gained widespread interest both in Denmark and abroad.

Wood Viking always delivers beautiful and flawless products. All items are packaged in eco-friendly boxes together with a small product leaflet. Each product has a Viking name with an accompanying story on the label.

The veneered wood consists of an MDF core with a thin layer of high-quality veneer applied to both sides. The wood is FSC-certified, ensuring responsible and sustainable sourcing. The products are laser-cut and may have a slight burnt scent, which will fade over time. The products should not be exposed to moisture or direct sunlight.

All jewelry features nickel-free hooks, clasps, and chains.

Products that require assembly are delivered with detailed instructions. Wood is a living material, and if any joints feel loose, you can use a small amount of clear wood glue to secure them.

Wood Viking’s products are not toys and are not suitable for children.

In 2024, Wood Viking ApS entered into a collaboration with Montage og Pakkeri in Roskilde — a true win-win story.

This collaboration allows me, as a business owner, to lighten some of the more time-consuming processes, giving me more freedom and enabling me to focus on other important areas such as developing new designs and increasing sales.

Montage og Pakkeri is a protected employment workshop for individuals with reduced functional capacity or mental vulnerability who need support to carry out their work.

Throughout our collaboration, I have experienced great enthusiasm and joy from both the staff and employees. It enhances quality of life — both for the workers and for me as a customer. I feel completely confident entrusting my products to the workshop, and it brings me genuine happiness every time the finished, beautifully packed items are ready for collection.
